kinetic lighting

january 2017

We had to make something which has motion and interesting

A kinetic lamp with an umbrella mechanism as a skeleton, holding cream yellow LED strip light, filtering and diffusing through the criss-cross patterns of paper origami, wrapping it from the bottom.

PERFECTION IS ACHIEVED NOT WHEN THERE IS NOTHING MORE
TO ADD, BUT WHEN THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO TAKE AWAY.

We stripped off an umbrella for its frame and fitted it with motors for actuation. Stings were additionally tied for stopping the rods from bending

Light strips were attached to threads connected to each hand

The LED strips were connected in parallel in a star like pattern.

The cross LED strips were added and is connected to the actuation motor in parallel.

.

8 V- shaped paper pieces were folded in the chosen origami pattern.

They were all stuck together to make the cover for the umbrella

The origami pattern is then connected to the umbrella by tying each end to the 8 hands of the skeleton
